Winter Wonderland Weekend | Jasper National Park

One of my best friends, Ellen moved to a teeny town outside Edmonton a little over a year ago. I’ve seen her a few times when she’s made the trip back to Ontario, but it was high time for me to make my way west. So, when an awesome flight deal from Hamilton to Edmonton presented itself, I couldn’t say no!

We had five splendid days together where we totally embraced winter! We spent half a […]

Lake Rotoiti Loop Walk

Nelson Lakes National Park, NZ
Though it wasn’t originally in our plans, Mac & I decided we wanted to check out the Nelson Lakes region. We had heard about some pretty awesome hikes there and wanted to check it out for ourselves! We made the 1.25 hour drive from Nelson mid-morning and arrived in a small town called St. Arnaud just after lunchtime. We parked our car in Kerr Bay and readied ourselves for the Lake Rotoiti […]

Abel Tasman Coast Walk

Abel Tasman National Park, NZ
Just over a month after our first ‘Great Walk’ experience (The Kepler Track), Mac & I decided we were ready to tackle another. The Abel Tasman Coast Walk is a 60km walk through Abel Tasman National Park. The track weaves through lush forests and vast beaches at it makes its way from the most southern part of the track – Marahau, to the northern part – Wainui. The rain that had […]

Hiking Chiloe National Park & More

Dalcahue, & Castro; Chiloe
Following our month in Lago Rupanco, we headed south to the island of Chiloe. The second largest island in Chile, Chiloe is part of an archipelago of islands on the coast of Chile. It’s also the last spot on the Pan American Highway. Additionally, this island would mark the furthest south that Mac and I have traveled to on this trip. At ~43deg, we were more or less equidistant from the equator […]

Big Trip Summary & Statistics: Month #8

Month #8 started off with us finishing up our volunteering job in Valparaiso. From Valpo, we made a pit stop in the lovely little town of Pucon. Though our time there was quite rainy, we got lucky with one clear day where we hiked in one of the most beautiful snow-filled parks I’ve ever seen. It was totally worth the lack of appropriate winter-attire and soaked socks & shoes!

From Pucon, we went right into our […]

Parque Nacional Huerquehue

Did you miss me?? My brief hiatus was due to the fact that the internet went down on the farm where Mac & I are currently volunteering. I’m going to do a full recap of our time here later, but 10 days of no internet was actually quite refreshing! I’m excited to get back to blogging though, because I just couldn’t wait to share the pictures from our excursion to Parque Nacional Huerquehue! Enjoy!

Colca Canyon Day Trip

Arequipa, Peru
After touring around Cusco, Bree, Brett, Mac, & I set off to Arequipa for the final few days of Bree & Brett’s trip. Similar to the city we had just left, Arequipa was in full swing for Corpus Christi celebrations. Groups from different churches, schools & communities gathered in the main square to create huge murals with what looked like paper mache. It was incredible to see the amount of work that went into […]

Tayrona National Park

Santa Marta, Colombia
For a change of pace in transportation, Mac & I took a shuttle bus from Cartagena to Santa Marta (until then, we had only flown within Colombia). Though the ride could have been better (the driver was border-line unsafe as well as rude, and we had to pull over to replace a tire), we arrived safely in Santa Marta where the first order of business was pizza & beer!!

After a relaxing night, the […]
