Backpacking in Lion’s Head

Lion’s Head, Ontario
Since a few months had passed since our last backpacking trip (to Algonquin Provincial Park), Mac & I felt it was time for another adventure! We had heard great things about Backpacking in Lion’s Head and decided to head up there for a 2 day/1 night trek!

Lion’s Head is about a 3 hour drive from Burlington on the Bruce Peninsula. The Provincial Park juts out into Georgian Bay. In the summer the Bruce […]

Homemade Vegan Backpacking Meals

Our recent hiking trip to the Western Uplands in Algonquin park was such an adventure. It was our first time really hiking & backpacking in Canada. We had done our fair share in NZ, so it was awesome to finally do it on the home turf. It was also an adventure because put together most of our food from scratch. In NZ we mainly stuck with couscous and ramen noodles (yes, I’m cringing too), but […]

NZ Road Trip: By the Numbers

NZ Road Trip!
From mid-April to mid-July, Mac & I drove around the country for an NZ Road Trip in our little boat-sized 1997 Toyota Camry. We hiked, we camped, we saw & we adventured. And it was amazing. New Zealand is such a beautiful country and I’m so incredibly happy that we had almost 3 full months to explore almost every nook & cranny.

We saw glaciers & mountains, and waterfalls & pristine lakes. We admired […]

Lake Rotoiti Loop Walk

Nelson Lakes National Park, NZ
Though it wasn’t originally in our plans, Mac & I decided we wanted to check out the Nelson Lakes region. We had heard about some pretty awesome hikes there and wanted to check it out for ourselves! We made the 1.25 hour drive from Nelson mid-morning and arrived in a small town called St. Arnaud just after lunchtime. We parked our car in Kerr Bay and readied ourselves for the Lake Rotoiti […]

Abel Tasman Coast Walk

Abel Tasman National Park, NZ
Just over a month after our first ‘Great Walk’ experience (The Kepler Track), Mac & I decided we were ready to tackle another. The Abel Tasman Coast Walk is a 60km walk through Abel Tasman National Park. The track weaves through lush forests and vast beaches at it makes its way from the most southern part of the track – Marahau, to the northern part – Wainui. The rain that had […]

Hiking the Kepler Track

Te Anau, New Zealand
When Mac & I first left Auckland, we had our sights set on Te Anau for one main reason: to hike the Kepler Track. The Kepler Track is one of nine “Great Walks” operated and maintained by the Department of Conservation. Due to its southern location in the Fjordlands, the Kepler Track season closes on April 28th (afterwards, wintertime in the Fjordlands becomes too cold/snowy/dangerous and the track is no longer maintained). […]
