For the better part of this year, I’ve been immersing myself in the great big world of art. This new creative outlet first started when a travel blogger I follow linked to her friend’s website. This friend, Candace, is a sketch artist that produces beautiful watercolour paintings from her worldwide travels. Coincidentally around this time I stumbled across a set of watercolour paints in our apartment. How serendipitous! I bought myself a paintbrush, some watercolour paper and went to work!

Since then, I’ve embraced a whole bunch of different mediums. I’ve grown to really enjoy line drawing and using graphite and coloured pencils in addition to painting. I took art classes all through high school, but it’s been almost 10 years since I did any form of artistry. It’s been so fun to flex my creative muscles once more and this new hobby has led to some exciting opportunities!

A Commissioned Artist!

It’s through this new creative outlet that I’ve actually become a paid artist!! How cool is that?! It all started with these two house paintings I did for Mac’s & my parents’.

After posting these pictures on Facebook, a few friends reached out and commissioned me to paint their parents’ houses as well!

In addition to these house paintings, I’ve also drawn a few custom pet portraits as gifts for a few friends. Below are Nugget, Bowzie, and Ruby & Molly.

And most recently, I participated in a month-long flower drawing challenge on Instagram. Each day of October featured a new prompt with a different flower to draw or sketch. Since my Nana is quite an accomplished gardener, I thought I was fairly well versed in the world of flowers. How wrong I was! Who knew there were so many different varieties?! I’m all set for another challenge in November!

This new creative outlet has brought me a lot of joy and I just wanted to share it in this space! I’m thinking of creating a permanent page on my blog to display my works in progress as well as a bunch of completed pieces! In the meantime, feel free to follow my art Instagram page – @tracelyart.

(*A little shameless plug coming your way in 3… 2… 1…) Apparently a little holiday called Christmas is now less than 2 months away. (HOW?!??!!) If you’re like me and you struggle with buying gifts for loved ones, a personalised piece of art is always a great option! Drop me a line at atasteoftrace [at] gmail [dot] com! I’d love to work with you!
